Each year I designate a day near Valentine's Day, aka Galentine’s Day (created by Amy Poehler) to spend with just my girlfriends. It’s a day that usually results in us drinking a little too much, eating a little too much, and well, laughing a little too much. Ultimately, it’s a day that makes me especially thankful for these gals of mine.
Instead of dinner this year, we chose a boozy brunch in Chelsea at Fonda. $35 gets each person an entrée and unlimited drinks for 1.5 hours. Immediately after being seated we placed an order for their guacamole, which was perfectly seasoned (we requested medium spicy). The chips were tasty too. I started with a Bloody Mary but then switched over to their signature Frozen Hibiscus Rosalita. I was HOOKED from the first sip. (If you ever find yourself ordering these, just beware of brain freeze!) I ordered their Torta de Pollo (ancho marinated grilled chicken served in a toasted roll with Chihuahua cheese, black beans, avocado, pickled jalapeno and a mixed green salad) and it’s safe to say I devoured it. Christy and Dee both ordered the Burrito Texano and Elizabeth ordered the Huevos Montados (two eggs served over rice, with diced plantains, queso fresco, picked red onions and tomato habanero sauce). Each of us were beyond content with what we had ordered.
After brunch we headed back to Hoboken so we could go to the Beer Garden and when we were over that, we made a pit stop at Coopers Union since it’s in close proximity to my apartment, and then we went our separate ways. It was another successful day with my girls – one which ended with me passing out for almost 13 hours... (whoops!)
