SUMMERTIME GLADNESS

This past weekend was spent on the South Shore of Long Island in the Village of Bellport at a summer house one of my best friend’s parents own. We drove out after work on Thursday night and stayed until earlier this afternoon. It was a great place to spend the long Labor Day weekend and relax.
It’s a real added bonus when your friend’s family feels like your second family. I still can’t fathom how they managed to house 8 of us “kids” and a baby, along with two of their own friends but they pulled it off and they certainly pulled it off well. They’re the most hospitable people I’ve ever met and I was very lucky to live around the block from them while growing up at my parent’s house in NJ.
The weather Friday was cloudy on and off but since I spent the day working remotely it wasn’t an issue. As soon as I had finished up and logged out, the fun began. We were graced with perfect weather the remainder of the weekend so we spent our time bike riding, laying by their pool, walking and jogging around town, watching live music by the bay, shopping, going to some local restaurant bars, and we even made it to a brewery (sometimes you’re en route to the grocery store and you just have to go a little off-course for a pit stop... WHOOPS).
If you’re ever in Bellport, I recommend venturing to the following places:
Porter’s On The Lane – We took advantage of the outdoor dining and day drank on their adorable front porch. Some might even say we overstayed our welcome but hey, it’s not our fault everything was delicious.
Painter’s Restaurant – Super trendy and the walls are covered with unique paintings. The staff was also really nice and made decent drinks. If you happen to find yourself there, ask for Kevin and tell him you’d like him to make it rain. Also, starting this weeke
nd they’ll have live music on the weekends.
TOLA - A cute boutique located in the center of town around the corner from Porter’s. Of course we stopped here for souvenir t-shirts.
Carla Marla’s Ice Cream Parlor – While I didn’t try their ice cream, my friends said they go frequently and love it.
Blue Point Brewing Company – I think it would be impossible to dislike this place. Your first four samples are free and the bartender is so friendly she just keeps giving you more. (HINT: You get tipsy for free.) They’re pet friendly, baby friendly, have live music, and a food truck. So, go.
After returning to Hoboken I took a nice stroll along the water with one of my roommates, Kelley, in Jersey City. At the two-mile mark we stopped in at Taphaus for a quick glass of wine to conclude our weekend and then headed back home.

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did! And if you’re one of the many people who keeps complaining that summer is over, CHILL OUT because we still have 15 more days. Please… go make them count!
